나의 어릴 적 일본생활 때문인지,
혹은 일본음식을 좋아하시게 된 부모님의 영향인지는 모르겠지만,
나는 일본 음식을 아주아주아주아주 좋아한다.

내가 제일 좋아하는 음식 1위는 스시,
2위 후보에는 소곱창, 회, 등 여러개가 있지만,
독보적인 1위는 단연 생선초밥.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

우리나라에도 몇 년전부터 회전초밥집이 생기고,
이래저래 스시가 비교적 흔한 음식이 되긴 했지만 아직 꽤 값비싼 고급음식이다.

그리고 무엇보다,
다른 어떤 음식보다도 스시의 질은 가격과 밀접하게 비례한다.

다양한 재료를 구하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니기 때문에
아주 고급 초밥집을 제외하고는 제대로 된 스시를 맛보기가 어렵다.
거리를 지나다가 "한접시 1000원"짜리 회전초밥집을 발견해도 전혀 설레지 않는 것은
천원짜리 회전초밥집은 보나마나 딱 천원어치 값을 하기 때문이다.

 

가장 단순한 비교방법인 "밥과 생선의 비율"만 봐도
고급스시에서 조그만한 밥이 커다란 생선에 덮혀 있는 모습이 마치 연미복을 입은 귀족 같다면
값싼 초밥에서 커다란 밥 덩어리가 조그만한 생선으로 겨우 몸을 가리고 있는 모습은
딱 맞는 옷을 걸친 돌쇠를 연상시키기 때문이다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

그런데,
오사카에서 최초로 회전초밥을 시작했다는 이 집에서
스시 두 점이 올려진 한 접시의 가격은 130엔, 우리돈으로 1300원이었다.

우리나라의 물가가 많이 올라서
식사 한끼의 서울과 일본 가격차이는 거의 없다.
일본이 물가가 비싸다고 하지만 교통비가 비쌀 뿐,
밥을 사먹으면서는 전혀 비싸다는 느낌이 들지 않을 정도.

하지만 거기서 스시 한 접시가 1300원이라니,
식당밖에 사람들이 줄을 서 있었지만 사실 별로 기대하지 않았다.

하지만 한접시 1300원짜리 스시의 맛은
우리나라 회전초밥집 3~4000원 짜리 한 접시보다 훨씬, 훨씬 맛있었다.

여행 중에 가장 행복한 순간이었다.
둘이서 거의 30접시를 먹었지만 1인당 2만원도 안되는 값.

 

 

 

 

 

 

어떻게 생각하면 우리나라의 초밥이 일본만큼 맛있을 수 없는 건 당연한 것 같기도 하다.
일단 수요가 일본과 비교가 안되게 작기 때문에 싱싱한 재료를 다양하게 구비하는 일이 쉽지 않다.
일본에서는 스시가 그리 특별한 음식이 아니라 길거리에 "설렁탕집 정도"로 많이 있다.
수요가 많고 거래 규모가 크다면 그만큼 다양한 재료를 쉽고 부담없이 준비할 수 있을 것 같다.

그리고 회전초밥의 경우,
스시의 생명은 신선함이지만
우리나라의 회전초밥집은 일본만큼 순환이 빠르지 못하다.

우리나라에서 회전초밥은 꽤나 비싼 음식이라서
다들 여유롭게 앉아서 천천히 식사를 하는 분위기..

스시를 만들어서 올려놓으면 그 접시가 소비되는 데 꽤나 오랜 시간이 걸린다.
그래서 선도 유지를 위해 많은 회전초밥집은 할 수 없이 투명 뚜껑을 씌워놓은 곳이 많다.

 

 

 

 

 

반면 일본의 회전초밥집은 특별히 고급음식점이 아니었다.
"여유로운 식사와 대화" 같은 분위기는 거의 없고
대부분의 사람들이 앉아서 후다다닥 배를 채우고 나가는 식.

그래서 사람들의 식사속도가 상당히 빠르고,
우리나라 회전초밥집보다 자리 간격도 좁고 사람도 항상 가득 차 있다.

요리사의 손을 떠난 스시는 회전 트레이에 올려지기 무섭게
누군가의 손에 의해 내려가게 되고,
요리사는 빈 자리를 메우느라 정신없이 스시를 만들어낸다.

 

서울의 예로 들면
"스시 히로바" 정도로 장사가 잘 되는 회전초밥집이 아닌 경우,
대부분의 회전초밥집은 그야말로 명색만 회전초밥이지
접시에 실린 채 이미 트레이를 여러번 돌고 난 초밥은 전혀 신선하지가 않다.

 

안타깝지만,,,
우리나라에서도 일본처럼 싸고 맛있는 초밥을 먹는 방법은
좀 더 많은 사람들이 초밥을 먹는 수밖에 없나......

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

오코노미야키와 야키소바.!!!
오사카에서 꽤 유명하대서 줄서서 먹은 집이었는데,
홍대 앞 오코노미야키집 후게츠는 제대로 일본의 맛을 내는 집이다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"일본의 김밥천국",
전국적인 덮밥체인인 "요시노야"

소고기 덮밥(규동) 4500원 정도..

젓가락으로 먹는 것이 신기했는데,
맛도 최고.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

어릴 적 일본에서 먹었던 것 중 가장 기억에 남는 메론빵.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

돈코츠 라멘.
홍대 앞 "하카다 분코"의 라면은 정말 최고로 맛있는 집이 분명하다.

아주 맛있었지만
하카다분코의 라면이 훨씬 맛있다는 생각이 들었다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

일본은 자판기문화가 아주 발달되어있다.
거리에는 전봇대만큼이나 자주 음료수 자판기가 있고,
식당에도 이렇게 자판기에서 식권을 직접 사서 먹는 경우가 많다.

또, 일본에서는 혼자서 밥 먹는 게 전혀 불편한 일이 아니기도 하다.
Bar 형식으로 되어 있는 집이 아주 많고,
우리나라 명동 거리 정도 되는 곳에 있는 식당의 야외테이블에서도
혼자서 라멘을 먹고 있는 여성이 전혀 이상해 보이지 않는 곳.

하루에 다섯끼를 드셨나?? ㅋㅋ 저두 저 회전초밥집 갔었는데.. 아! 또다른점.. 생강절임의 양, 한국에서 초밥먹을 때는 조금만 주니까 아껴서 먹어야 하는데 일본에서는 김치먹듯 먹었던 기억이 나네요--
